Well the Winner wasn't me, but I definitely feel like a winner. My preparation for getting back into pageantry at the end of the season was definitely a lot of hard work. I had a lot of people who weren't very supportive and couldn't see why I even wanted to participate. To be honest, most of them only saw the shape of my body and the color of my skin. But because of women like Halle Berry, the controversial Kenya Moore, and other African American pageant winners I knew color would never be an issue for me. I do suffer from body image issues, what woman doesn't. It was because I found a wardrobe that I felt comfortable with, that that went out the door as well. So why shouldn't I compete. I got great mental and interview training with Heather Sumlin of Mental Management Systems. I got my body in fantastic shape thanks to Chris Harrison of Core Complete Systems. And I had all the determination I needed.
Well long story short, I overlooked the non-supporters and still stepped out on stage anyway. I competed in the Miss DFW competition where I got 2nd Runner up. It was the most humbling moment because I know I could only get better from there. I then participated in the Miss Cy-Fair Houston pageant two weeks later. Although, I did not bring anything home I did learn that I need to prepare for long pageant days and I met some amazing women while I was in Cypress. I also had a good time with my mom. So I still was positive when I got back. I finally participated in the Miss Texas Sweeper, which was a very fast and fun competition. I actually expected to go home empty-handed because I felt like I had terrible performances throughout the whole day and I tied for Overall Interview Winner! I couldn't believe it. It is one of the best awards to be recognized for besides getting a crown. All of the winners who won, definitely inspired me to be even better for next season. I have confidence that through my preparation for next year my name will be called.
Thank you to all of my choreographers, trainers, and supporters who have not only supported me this season but also last season. I still will definitely need all of you for next year, but I am very appreciative of my team thus far. I hope to continue expanding and growing as well. Please feel free to comment with tips, advice, opportunities, or warm wishes. Your positive energy is the fuel I need to keep pressing toward my goals. :)
