This week has been a full week of controversy, especially in the sports world. I definitely wanted to discuss this week in history, because it's great practice for future interviews in pageants and it's always good to hear other people's views and opinions.
The huge hype this week, that has had publicity for a while is the interview with Lance Armstrong and Oprah Winfrey. Armstrong recently admitted to using illegal performance enhancement drugs during his time of competition. He had been stripped of his titles, and more recently the committee of the Olympics has decided to rid of his Olympic honors as well. Lance's interview with Oprah was to give his loyal fans and the world an answer to all of our "why" questions. When watching the interview Lance seemed remorseful but also at peace. To many, his demeanor was uncaring, but I think this interview and his recent personal apologies have helped him come to terms with his wrongdoing. A lot of the debate is, is this a good guy who lied to win or is a bad person who happened to do a few good deeds. His greatest deed is starting the Livestrong Foundation, which is associated with the global cancer population. That foundation has raised millions of dollars through general donations and merchandise which has gone directly to help cancer victims and survivors. However, the lying of how he won is what hurts his fans and supporters the most. At the end of the day, cheating happens all the time, whether it's in a classroom or a professional sport. I am glad Lance admits his mistakes, but because the truth came to light before he owned up to it, I think it will take a very long time and a lot of apologies before his supporters can forgive him.
Also, this week there was a huge bomb that was dropped on the american public by none other than now popular Manti Te'o. It's an ongoing scandal that not only shocked everyone but also confused a lot of us. Frankly, I'm still confused because a lot of the interviews are still not adding up. I won't give what happened, because there are so many different versions of what has happened. I am very ready for Manti to sit down with Katie Couric so we all can have one clear concise story of what happened. At this point, I am not sure if Te'o is a victim or a crooked accomplice in a shameful prank. Whoever is involved or started this cruel act, I hope is very remorseful and knows that the truth will come to light soon. Not only have they insulted the very delicate topic of cancer and leukemia, but have also exposed a young woman by using her picture on a social networking website in vein. We all know Manti Te'O's football career will continue on to the NFL and he will be drafted to a team. I just hope the pressure and backlash from the public does not affect his playing skills. All I can say is that the truth will come to light sooner or later, but more importantly the truth will set you free. I will definitely be watching for more to this story throughout my free time this week.
Now onto, my personal week. I conquered the kitchen by cooking a lot of breakfast and dinner for my mother and I this week. I worked a lot this week, and developed some great bonds with a lot of patients and their families this week. I also have continued my overall health journey with healthy eating habits all week and a lot of working out. I attended my favorite hot yoga spot, American Power Yoga and worked out with a great trainer. I can feel my body changing. I hope to continue to see and feel the goals I am working toward. This week's goal is to continue everything I did the week before by working hard at my job, keeping up to date on everyday news, and working hard on my health. The next goal is to promote the Be The Match Run+Walk coming up in march, but charting my training progress and posting the links for everyone to join my team or donate to a great cause.
