Today I attend my first church service of the year. I realize it is the second Sunday of the year, but I spent my first working. In the past, and especially throughout my undergraduate years I tried to hide from God. I didn't go crazy with any typical college cliche' acts, but I just never attended a service religiously. Once I was back at home finishing my last few credits of my degree, I was comfortable with not attending a service and volunteered to work the Sunday shift for that purpose. Now that it's a new year, and a new schedule at work, I realize that God wants me to run back after him and all the amazing things he does for us. So my first act in my manifestation is to become a better "follower" for God.
Today's message came from Luke 13: 10-17 entitled "Worshiping in Pain". It was definitely the right message for me to start off my new relationship with God and religion as a whole. The particular passage is about when Jesus heals a possessed woman on the Sabbath day and is criticized because he did it on what is known as a "day of rest". The preacher went on to describe the true meaning of worship as not going to God for a specific healing, but rather for just a word to help handle your current situation. He also went on to say that as long as you are worshiping God you are in the right situation. This sermon, I say, is a good starting point for developing and understanding what a real relationship with Lord is all about. He has already blessed me this far, and he deserves the most ultimate praise.
After church, I went to the movies with my mother as we usually do on Sundays. We watched The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I was very impressed with not only the graphics, but the how well the movie was written to be parallel with the original book. I thought the movie was great, but I found a deeper relationship with the movie than intended. I admired the courage and the passion the dwarfs had for doing whatever it takes to get their mountain back. They still have another journey that I am looking forward to seeing later this year to get their mountain, but the omen at the end is their hope and inspiration. This year I will take the same attitude and passion toward the goals I have placed for myself.
Finally, this evening I started my team for the Be The Match Walk+Run in Dallas on March 2, 2013. The team is called "Bad to the Bone", which my mom came up with. I would love for you to visit the link and join my team or make a donation to the cause. I will be keeping you updated about the progression of the team and my training for the run!
